Pernambuco was written in the spring of 2021 for Autumn Hobel-Furrer. It explores the cello through two different movements. The first, without the bow, utilizing a guitar-style approach to pizzicato, and the second, adding the bow. The work follows a kind of narrative of being trapped and only finding a way out through the use of creativity--symbolized by the bow. The title comes from the name of a type of wood which is commonly used in the creation of bows.
